The Stray Cats do a magnificent job on "Rock This Town;" they use the music to complement their vocals perfectly.Madness plays and sings "Our House" which always makes me think of my childhood home--it's THAT good. These songs bring back a lot of memories for me and that's special. They sing this pretty well, too. "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" keeps Tears For Fears squarely in the spotlight which was right where they always belonged--awesome. Dexys Midnight Runners do their wonderful "Come On Eileen;" I remember hearing this on the radio and rushing out to the record store to buy the LP single of this number so I could listen anytime I wanted to hear it. I wish we had some liner notes. The CD begins with The Buggles performing a great hit entitled "Video Killed the Radio Star." "Video Killed the Radio Star" got played so much on the radio I knew all the lyrics by heart. The artwork is good, too.
This tune has a fine musical arrangement that The Buggles do this one up right. In addition, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by The Eurythmics was just one of their best tunes; The Eurythmics never sounded better and that strong percussion marks the beat along with the drums. Pure 80's may not have all the biggest hits from the 1980s on it; but you get a whopping 20 tracks and that makes this CD a good deal. Level 42 really shines on this tune; "Something About You" was and remains a big hit for them and they do this one with a lot of class. Culture Club got a lot of mileage from "Karma Chameleon" and they deserved every bit of the attention and airplay that they got for this tune. In addition, I really like "Higher Love" by the wonderful Steve Winwood; Steve really sings this one straight out of the ballpark and he remains a music icon to this day."Addicted To Love" by Robert Palmer is another song that features the talents of a very accomplished artist; you're bound to enjoy "Addicted To Love." The guitars, percussion and drums combine to form the basis of a strong musical arrangement--but wisely they never steal the show away from Robert; he stays in the spotlight and that's quite all right by me. Truthfully, though, it is probably best suited for the newcomer who doesn't yet have these hits in their music collection; but it could be a nice addition for the more diehard fan as well. They play this to perfection, too.Overall, Pure 80's is a great CD that I heartily recommend to people who like music from the 1980s.
These songs are well reproduced here; the quality of the sound is absolutely excellent. This tune will bring back memories and Madness harmonizes really well on the chorus for this classic 80's tune. I love it; and this was played in all the clubs back in the day. I don't think Wang Chung got enough true respect for their "Everybody Have Fun Tonight;" it's quite a strong number and Wang Chung really showed they had a lot of talent. There's also the hit "One Thing Leads To Another" by The Fixx; and listen for "Something About You" by Level 42. The CD even ends strong with Squeeze playing "Tempted." "Tempted" was one of their biggest hits ever and they still rank high in my book. If you truly want an in-depth look at 80's music, however, I would recommend a box set of this genre of music.
My 8 yr old granddaughter said "This is Awesome"My 7 yr old grandson said "sweet"
I used to fall asleep to this album throughout my middle-school years of heartache and pop-worship. This is my favorite compilation CD. It has the 4 songs that, to me, sport a tattoo of the 80s on their foreheads: "Video Killed the Radio Star", "Everybody (Wang Chung) Tonight", "Centerfold" and the epic "Jessie's Girl".
Pure '80s is a popular CD series and they have better than the others. The DVD series of Pure '80s is based on this 1980's music series. Out of the 7 Pure '80s CD's: Pure '80s #1, Pure '80s Hits, Pure '80s, More Pure '80s, Pure '80s Love, Pure '80s Rock, Pure '80s Dance, the original has the best hits of the '80s on it. '80s CDs that are by the countdown or starlite singers aren't the original and way worse. This is preformed by the original singers and it doesn't seem to have gay music on it. My top songs are Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This ( Eurythmics ), One Thing Leads To Another ( Fixx ), Obsession ( Animation ), Tempted ( Squeeze ). There are 20 songs on this and the number of songs decrease as it goes into the series. This is the first Pure '80s CD.Grade: A++++
